BIOGRAPHY

Alesssandro Mantelero is a professor of Elements of Private Law and Innovation & International Transactions Law at Politecnico di Torino. He is also the Director of Privacy at the Nexa Center for Internet & Society. He is a part-time expert at the Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology and he is the coordinator of the Double Degree program in Management and IP Law (Politecnico di Torino - Tongji University of Shanghai). In 2016 he was nominated expert consultant by the Council of Europe to draft the first guidelines on Big Data in application of the Convention 108 on the protection of personal data. His research and publications are in the field of law for new technologies, with particular attention to the issue of data protection. He spent a time period of research abroad at the University of Harvard, University of Oxford and at the Universidad Oberta de Catalunya.

WEARABLE DEVICES: RESPONSABLE LAW AND DESIGN

The wearable devices are, and will increasingly be, part of our days, which assisting us with multiple functions often based on the elaboration of personal information. The workshop will cover all aspects including personal privacy and the understanding of the implications related to data protection of such devices, which are useful to developers and consumers. Privacy is not a sort of antithesis to innovation, but a complement that should lead to responsible design, geared to respecting the rights and values of individuals and society.
